SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) – China and El Salvador announced an agreement to exchange free currencies, the announcement was made by China’s ambassador-at-large and El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, during an event in El Salvador.

The two countries will work together to finalize the process “as soon as possible,” the Chinese embassy in Salvador said in a press release.

On Monday, a Salvadorian tribunal confirmed the suspension of the free trade agreement between El Salvador and Taiwan, which the Chinese ambassador to Salvador Ou Jianhong celebrated.

“We express our gratitude and our appreciation for this decision on the basis of the principle of China alone,” she declared at the time.
