Indigenous Energy Storage Technologies Pvt Ltd. (Indienergy), a startup incubated at the Technology Incubation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (TIDES), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), has been announced as the winner of DRDO’s Laugh to Dream Innovation 3.0 Competition in the Startup category.
This startup works to develop sodium (Na)-ion battery technology. Na-ion batteries are cost effective and meet the objectives of Aatm Nirbhar Bharat. It should be noted that the startup is developing all the necessary components locally to commercialize the battery technology.
TIEDS was created to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. To achieve its objective, TIEDS is launching and managing a business incubator named Technological Innovation and Development Entrepreneurship Support (TIDES) located at IIT, Roorkee.
Akash Soni, Prof. Yogesh Sharma, Dr. Nagesh Kumar and Dr. Asit Sahu, as a team of Indigenous Energy Storage Technologies Pvt Ltd. won the first prize in DRDO’s “Dare to Dream 3.0” content. The award of Rs 10 lakh is presented by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
In last year’s Dare to Dream 2.0 competition, Professor Sudipta Sarkar from IIT Roorkee won the innovation competition in the individual category. Also, Log 9 Materials Sci Pvt Ltd., the first start-up incubated by TIDES, IIT Roorkee, won the second prize in the start-up category last year.
Laugh to Dream Competition was initiated in memory of former President of India Dr. E.P.J. Abdul Kalam with the aim of identifying ideas and technologies that can be adopted in the future for the defense and aerospace needs of India. It aims to bring out DRDO’s breakthrough ideas and concepts in emerging technologies from individuals and startups to enhance defense capabilities.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Starting from trial and error science to mastering farming and agriculture, we have understood the science of civilization. But in order to make further progress and achieve new goals, new methods must be used. And this is what I call research and development towards a better future and Aatm Nirbhar Bharat.”
