YUVIKA, the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) residential research training program for 9th graders, has collected applications from about 100,000 children from across the country. Now the space agency has selected about 150 students for the program, which began May 16 and ends May 28.
“About 1,000 students applied for the program. Finally, 150 students were selected on the basis of their academic scores and achievements in other joint classes, ”the official ISRO statement said.
The goal of YUVIK is to raise young people’s awareness of new trends in science and technology. It hopes to encourage more students to pursue research or careers in science, engineering, engineering and mathematics.
According to ISRO, under this program students will have the opportunity to communicate with renowned scientists in addition to classroom lectures, sky observation, robot assembly, tours of laboratories / institutions and Cansat experiments. It was also announced that all students will also be taken to SDSC SHAR- SRIGARIKOTA, India’s spaceport, for a visit and personal meeting with ISRO Chairman S. Samanath.
Training centers for YUVIK
- The training takes place in five centers of the space agency:
- Ahmedabad Space Applications Center
- UR Rao Satellite Center in Bangalore
- Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Thiruvananthapuram
- Hyderabad National Center for Remote Sensing
- Northeast Space Application Center in Shilong
The program was almost inaugurated by S. Samanath on Monday. During the inauguration, Samanath encouraged students to take the opportunity to meet with experienced scientists and technocrats. He also talked about several options and areas such as engineering, astrobiology, astrophysics, materials science, mathematics, chemistry and computer science, all of which are important components of space technology that can be used by students. The head of ISRO encouraged students to become “ambassadors” of ISRO, spreading the experience to their classmates, teachers and the general public.
