The Olympic torch has made its way to France in anticipation of the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, set to commence in July. Organizers have emphasized that the event will be safeguarded by an extensive security operation.

The Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 and August 28 to September 8, respectively, featuring thousands of athletes participating in various events.

Venues for both the Olympics and Paralympics will be spread across Paris, with the main athletics events held at the Stade de France. However, numerous other iconic locations in the city center will also host events, including cycling on the Pont d’Iena and marathon starting points at the Hotel de Ville and Les Invalides.

In preparation for the Games, French security forces are implementing stringent measures, including the closure of certain metro and railway stations, as well as tight restrictions on public access to game venues and extensive traffic controls.

Concerns over security threats have prompted adjustments to the Olympic opening ceremony, with a reduction in spectator numbers and considerations to relocate the event from the Seine River to alternative venues like the Trocadero Gardens or Stade de France if deemed necessary.

France has mobilized significant security personnel, with thousands of soldiers and police officers deployed to ensure the safety of participants and spectators. Additionally, intelligence services have been actively monitoring potential threats, including terrorist plots uncovered earlier in the year.

Both Russia and Belarus have been barred from sending teams to the Paris Games due to their involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. Athletes from these countries will only be allowed to participate as neutral competitors, with restrictions on national symbols and anthems.

Despite the security measures and logistical challenges, the hosting of the Olympic Games has generated mixed reactions among Parisians, with concerns over increased congestion and disruptions in daily life. Nonetheless, organizers remain committed to delivering a successful and secure event for athletes and spectators alike.
