Lela Hughes, wife State Sen. Brian Hughes, R-Mineola and a member of Turning Point USA’s National Speakers Bureau, will deliver the keynote address at the Women in Red GOP Women’s Celebration River Valley Thursday at the Lamar County Fairgrounds.
The event, themed “Gritty, Gutsy and Game-Changers,” will begin at 7 p.m. in Building B at the fairgrounds, 570 E. Center St. Pam Anglin and local media personality Cathy Bartlett.
“We want to honor local game-changers who have made a difference in our community,” said organization president Cynthia Rice-Tims. “The women honored are business professionals, healthcare professionals, and the hearts and souls who hold our community together and continue to build its strength.”
Timms said her group was inspired by Gov. Greg Abbott’s official proclamation designating March as Women’s History Month.
“We were inspired to hold this event by Governor Abbott’s official proclamation to celebrate the importantcheap women in our history and current game changers that continue to shape history and our future in our communities, state and nation,” Timms said.
In addition to speakers and other community leaders, Timms said RWRRV also reached out to local school districts and Paris Junior College to encourage young STEM and BETA women to participate.
“We present those in attendance with beautiful certificates designed in the style of the governor’s official proclamation,” Timms said.
“This is a non-partisan event,” she added.
