Snodgrass is running for mayor of Detroit News

The Paris News reached out to candidates in the contested district’s political races for comment on their bids. Kenny Snodgrass is the current mayor of Detroit who is running for re-election.

Q. What do you see as the main issues in the city/school district that prompted you to seek the position?

A. I sought a position 10 years ago to create a family and community atmosphere in our small town, and for the past 10 years, that is exactly what I have been doing.

Q: What experience do you have that makes you feel qualified for the position you are seeking?

A. Not only am I familiar with the city and the situation, as I served as mayor for 10 years, but I am also familiar with the people who make up Detroit.

We are not just a tabernacle, a grocery store, and a few city signs. We are more than that. We are families, friends, and most importantly, a community.

Q. What are your goals for the city?

A. My goals for the city could be much bigger. I wish we had a police force. I’d like to see us have more community events and I’d like to repaint the water tower, I’d like to see all of our streets paved, but I’m also realistic in trying to look at what our city budget will allow. What can we really afford? Let’s start with that.

Q. How long have you lived in the community you want to serve?

A. I have lived in Detroit all my 40 years of life. I am proud of this community and what our generations will be proud of.

Q. What will you do to encourage community participation in city government?

A. With the help of community members, Detroit United has organized family events for most major holidays, including Christmas, Fourth of July and Halloween. Events attract not only people from our city, but also those from surrounding communities who come to spend money at our businesses.

I will continue to play a big role and continue to encourage Detroiters to come together and create memories for our future Detroit leaders. Ten years is just the beginning for Detroit and Mayor Snodgrass.
