PARIS (Reuters) – Clashes erupted for a second day in Paris on Saturday between the police and Kurdish protesters angry at the murder of three members of their community by an armed man.

Cars have been overturned, a vehicle has been set on fire, shop windows have been damaged and small fires have been set near the Place de la République, a traditional place of demonstrations where the Kurds previously organized a peaceful demonstration. .

Speaking on the news channel BFM TV, Nunez declared that quelques dizaines de demonstrators were responsible for the violence, ajoutant qu’il y avait eu 11 arrests et une trentaine de blessés légers.

The police arrested a 69-year-old man who, according to the authorities, had recently been released from custody pending his trial for a suspected attack on a migrant camp in Paris one year ago.

Following the suspect’s interrogation, the investigators added an alleged racist motive to the initial charges of murder and armed violence, the prosecutor said on the same day.

Cependant, the interrogation was then interrupted for medical reasons and the man was transferred to a psychiatric unit, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The suspect will be presented to an investigating judge when his state of health will allow him, he added.

Hundreds of Kurdish demonstrators, joined by politicians who don’t have the mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris, waved flags and listened to tributes to the victims.

“Nous ne sommes pas du tout protegés.” In 10 years, six Kurdish militants were killed en plein cœur de Paris en plein jour “, declaré à BFM TV Berivan Firat, porte-parole du CDK-F, lors de la manifestation.

Elle declared that the event had deteriorated after certain demonstrators had been provoked by people making pro-Turkish gestures in a vehicle that was passing by.

The murders on Friday preceded the anniversary of the murder of three Kurdish women in Paris in January 2013.

An investigation was abandoned after the death of the main suspect before his trial, before reopening in 2019.

The Kurdish representatives, who met Nunez on the same day as the French Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti, reiterated their appeal that the fusillade on Wednesday was considered a terrorist attack.
