On the occasion of the move from the United Nations General Assembly on 19 September to 23 September 2022, Ms. Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, presided in New York on 22 September 2022 with Reporters Without Borders. the second ministerial summit for information and democracy. The ministerial summit reunites the 45 partner states of this initiative that aims to promote the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression and access to free, plural and reliable information.

The war in Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic have reminded us of the challenges that the global information and communication space must face, among the manipulation campaigns led by propaganda agencies, the proliferation of false information on les vaccines publiés sur les réseaus sociaux, les drastiques apporées à la liberté de la presse et la necessité de reinforcer la soutenabilité du journalisme.

This second ministerial summit for information and democracy will be the occasion of:

  • faire le bilan de la lutte contre la proliferation des fausses informations, en échangeant sur les Législations des Etats du Partenariat et en pousséant le développement de pratiques d’autorégulation par les acteurs privés et de la société civile. France and several other states are discussing the Initiative for Confidence in Journalism (Journalistic Trust Initiative), an independent and transparent certification initiative aimed at favoring and promoting media that meet ethical and independence rules;
  • evoquer les moyens d’assure la soutenabilité économique des médias indépendants;
  • to present the observatoire project for information and democracy. On the model of the GIEC for the Climate, the Observatory will be responsible for evaluating the evolution of the global information space and publishing a report at regular intervals for the Member States of the Partnership and the civil society;
  • annoncer de nouvelles adhesions d’États au Partenariat pour l’information et la démocratie.

    Le Partenariat pour l’information et la démocratie was launched on September 26, 2019 in New York. Signed to this day by 45 States representing all regions, it is intended to promote the exercise of freedom of opinion and expression and access to free, plural and reliable information, through the implementation of guarantees démocratiques dans l’espace mondial de l’information et de la Communication. Afin de mettre en œuvre les principes du Partenariat, un Forum sur l’information et la démocratie a été créé le 10 novembre 2019 par Reporters sans frontières et ten organizations indépendantes de la société civile.
