Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be arriving in just a few weeks, and in the meantime, Pokemon fans can add three rare Mythical Pokemon to their Pokemon Sword and Shield collections.
Until October 29th, GameStop stores across the US will be giving away free download codes for Genesect and Volcanion. After this promotion ends, Target stores will be giving away free Marshadow codes from October 30th through November 12th.
As with other Pokemon freebies, no purchase is necessary, but the codes will only be available while supplies last, so you’ll need to act fast if you hope to get your hands on the codes.
Once you’ve received your code, fire up your copy of Pokemon Sword or Shield and follow these steps to redeem it:
- Press X to open the menu.
- Choose A mysterious gift.
- Choose Receive a mystery gift.
- Choose Get with code/password.
- Enter the code when prompted.
- Save your game.
This promotion is running ahead of the launch of the next major Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The upcoming titles will take players to a new open-world region called Paldeia, which is home to various brand new pokemon and symbols.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launches on November 18th. As a bonus, anyone who purchases either title before February 28th will be able to get a special Pikachu in their game.
With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on the horizon, Sword and Shield online events will end next month. After November 1st, games will no longer receive new Max Raid events or online competitions. However, other online features – such as the ability to trade and battle with other players – will remain available.
